Traffic regulations and other important information on Austria´s roads:

Alcohol: There is a legal alcohol limit of 0.5.
Phoning: No phoning whilst driving unless you have a special kind of phoning facility.
Studded tyres: Studs are allowed from November 15th to April 10th. The vehicle needs a badge at the back.
Snow chains: Obligation of snow chains should be followed by all means. At a sudden onset of winter pass-roads will need snow chains.
Pedestrian crossings: Pedestrians at pedestrian crossings must be allowed to cross the road. The vehicle has to stop even if the pedestrian has not yet stepped onto the pedestrian crossing.
School buses: You must not pass a school bus while pupils are getting in or out of the bus. The switched on hazard warning lights will tell you that.
Safety belts: In Austria there is the obligation of using safety belts. Children younger than 12 need special safety belts (child´s safety seats).
Children: Children must be allowed to cross the road anywhere.
